Target Explicit Goals
Definition
Established goals can be the state content standards, district program goals, departmental objectives, and exit-level outcomes.
Why?
These goals can provide the rationale for the short-term goals in each lesson (Wiggins, G. et. al., 2005, p.257).
Explicit goals help align the instructional design steps.
How to?

- Far transfer is the central goal of education.
- Break down complex goals into actionable small steps.
- CTA of experts
- Contextual inquiry
- Set appropriate goals based on learners' prior knowledge and developmental levels.
- Use goals to align assessments and instructions.
- Explain goals explicitly to students.
- Use Bloom's Taxonomy, KLI, or ABCD to specify specific, observable, and measurable learning objectives. (Specific, Observable, and Measurable Objectives)
